What a whirlwind of a year it has been for Australia! We've seen the most destructive bushfires in history, a global pandemic filled with hysteria and isolation and a very important movement seeking justice for our people of colour. There hasn’t been a better time to support the ones around us, collaborate and stand together to make positive change.
Maker was built on the power of connecting people with local creators and moving away from mass consumerism and unethical ideologies. We believe that we have the power to change the world based on what we buy, and by supporting the makers around us, we show that we appreciate the slow process, uniqueness of each handmade piece
and the story they each tell.
I'm Raine, founder of Maker. I grew up here in Port Douglas, surrounded by the pristine Daintree Rainforest and the spectacular Great Barrier Reef. I was fortunate enough to have a childhood spent chasing waterfalls, hiking mountains, sailing the ocean and flying over our amazing land. Consequently, my camera became as important as another limb, journeying with me on all my adventures. As I grew older, capturing life around me became more than just a hobby. At 14 I decided to start my own freelance photography business. I now saw my work as a way to connect with others and express my creativity while always sharing an important message of protecting the environment. After graduating high school and studying filmmaking in Byron Bay for a year, I decided it was time to put all my passions into something I could help to make change.
I look forward to introducing you to our makers and our new store!
Lots of love, Raine xox
